All About Yoga

Most Common Yoga Poses Used during Studio Yoga

When it comes to yoga poses or asanas, there are many types and difficulty levels. Choosing the best class for you is a matter of personal ability and choice. You will need to consider which yoga poses are best for you routine. However, many studio yoga classes offer class levels from beginner to advanced. Studio Yoga may be the best way to start out if you are unsure of the different poses and what is safe to start with. Studio Yoga classes will teach you the yoga poses, as well as the spiritual or mental objectives of the routines.

Basic Level of Studio Yoga Classes

Studio yoga classes start out with simple or beginner yoga poses for the less experienced. These yoga poses may be as simple as a Downward Facing Dog, or can become more complex to include a Warrior II Pose.

While both of these yoga poses are considered beginner level, they range in difficulty quite a bit. A studio yoga class will begin with the least difficult and work its way up to the next level. Along the way you will experience yoga poses such as the Mountain Pose or the Raised Hands Pose.

Intermediate Level of Studio Yoga Classes

Upon advancement to the next intermediate level, you will find yoga poses such as the Half Moon Pose and the Lizard Pose. These yoga poses will require a more agile movement and more flexibility. You may find that after the simple nature of the beginner's poses, that the intermediate yoga poses can be very difficult and sometimes impossible. However, never push yourself to do something you are not comfortable with. Every studio yoga class should offer you the opportunity to sit out any poses you don not feel comfortable with. No studio yoga class should make you feel inferior or push you to things you are not comfortable with.

Advanced Level of Studio Yoga Classes

The next level in a studio yoga class is the advanced level. In this studio yoga class, you will be pushed to the limits of euphoria with inversions, arm balances and seated poses. These studio yoga poses will require the ultimate in skill and commitment. These poses can take years to achieve and some may never be accomplished. Advanced poses are made for people who have spent years honing their technique and preparing their body. Trying these poses before your body is ready can result in injury.

While there are over 30 types of yoga, with even more poses in each style, it can be very confusing on where to start. It may be best to begin by taking classes at the local yoga studio until you are sure on the direction you want to take. Once you have a basic understanding of the art, it can be easy to practice at home. Many people use yoga as a destressing technique at the end of the day. If you are not comfortable with joining a yoga group, you can search online and find many regimens available. Be sure to find the poses appropriate for your physical stamina to begin with.
