Mastering The Yoga Tree And Other Positions

When starting a yoga regimen you will find there are a variety of yoga positions. Some yoga positions help with mental focus and others are used to tone and strengthen the body. Each pose of these yoga positions will use both mental awareness and physical composure to create the desired effects. Yoga positions will range in difficulty from a sitting pose to a complete inversion or headstand. No one should ever try advanced yoga positions without prior experience or practice.

Easy Yoga Positions


When starting beginning yoga positions, you will find most offer a sitting or stretching exercise. The half lotus position offers a state that facilitates rest and self reflection.


The Cobra will stretch all of the pelvic muscles and strengthen the back in preparation for a more advanced move. These yoga positions are ways of strengthening the human body before moving on to the next phase. This does not mean these yoga positions are always easy, but they offer a simpler place to start.

How to Perform the Yoga Tree


One of the most important yoga positions on the road to the next level is the yoga tree. The yoga tree helps improve balance, and teaches the student a valuable lesson in self awareness. The yoga tree position puts the body in a position where balance must be achieved by centering yourself and not loosing control. In a yoga tree position, you will have your hands stretched to the limit above your head. At the same time, the yoga tree position requires that you raise your foot and bring it up the front of its opposite thigh. In the yoga tree position, the arms will focus on centering, while the foot will be pulling away from that position. When learning both mental and physical symmetry, the yoga tree position can have many benefits. There are certain variations of the yoga tree pose. You can lower your hands to faces each other at the diaphragm or you can invert your arms to make the pose even more difficult. To build your balancing skills even further, you can practice the yoga tree with your eyes closed. The human brain provides a natural center through focusing on a fixed target. Without visual assistance, this pose can truly be a task.

Advanced Yoga Positions


As your body and mind grow stronger with time, you will be able to move forward to yoga positions more difficult than the yoga tree. Some of the most advanced yoga positions include difficult twists and bends. These yoga positions will require a great deal of flexibility and balance. Some positions require your head being placing in an inverted state, for those new to the technique, it can be very disorienting and feel quite strange. These poses should be moved into very slowly and after much preparation. Trying to stand on your head with no prior preparation can actually lead to injury. As with any phase of yoga, always check with your doctor if you have health problems, which may prevent you from doing certain yoga positions.
